Walking With God: It’s Not Too Late to Begin Again

Hi friends.

This morning, as I continued my reading through Genesis, I found myself in Genesis 5:22–24, and I couldn’t move on quickly. The words lingered, and a thought wouldn’t leave my heart.

These verses sit quietly in the genealogy of Adam — names, ages, sons and daughters. Easy to skim past. But right in the middle of it all, one life stood out to me: Enoch.

Scripture says:

“Enoch walked in habitual fellowship with God after the birth of Methuselah 300 years… And Enoch walked in habitual fellowship with God; and he was not, for God took him.” (Amplified)

That phrase — habitual fellowship with God — arrested me.

When Did Enoch Start Walking With God?

What struck me most wasn’t just how Enoch lived, but when his walk with God began.

Enoch was 65 years old when he had Methuselah. And Scripture tells us it was after that — after becoming a father, after living life — that Enoch began walking closely with God.

Sixty-five.

That detail alone spoke loudly to me.

Because I’m in my mid-40s now. Like many people, I gave my life to Christ early. I was baptized as a teenager. I’ve known God for years. But reading this passage forced me to ask myself a very honest question:

Am I really walking with God… or am I just familiar with Him?

Familiarity Is Not the Same as Fellowship

It’s possible to know God’s name, His Word, His promises — and still not be walking closely with Him.

Enoch didn’t just believe in God.

He didn’t just acknowledge God.

He walked with God.

Not occasionally.

Not when it was convenient.

But habitually.

That word “habitual” matters. It speaks of consistency, intimacy, intentionality. A daily posture of awareness. A life lived in conversation with God.

And it made me pause.

It’s Not Too Late

One thing this passage made crystal clear to me is this: it’s never too late to go deeper.

If Enoch could begin this kind of walk at 65, then none of us are late to the journey.

It doesn’t matter when you gave your life to Christ.

It doesn’t matter how long you’ve been in church.

It doesn’t matter how inconsistent your spiritual life has felt.

What matters is this: you can start today.

The Beauty of Enoch’s Walk

Genesis 5:24 says something remarkable:

“Enoch walked in habitual fellowship with God; and he was not, for God took him.”

Enoch didn’t experience death the way others did. His relationship with God was so deep, so intimate, so pleasing, that God simply took him.

It’s such a tender picture.

A life so aligned with God…

A walk so consistent…

A fellowship so real…

That it seemed like God said, “Come home.”

And that made me ask myself another sobering question:

Am I living intentionally — or am I just passing time?

A Personal Decision for This Year

As I reflected, I felt a quiet conviction in my heart:

This year cannot look like previous years.

Not because I have all the answers.

Not because I’ve figured it out.

But because I desire more.

James 1:5 came strongly to mind:

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives generously to all without reproach.”

So my prayer today is simple and sincere:

Holy Spirit, draw me closer.

Teach me how to walk with You daily.

Show me what habitual fellowship looks like in my life.

The Holy Spirit is our teacher, our guide, our counselor. And I’m learning that deeper fellowship begins with humility — asking Him to lead.

An Invitation for You Too

If you’re reading this and something is stirring in your heart, I want you to know this:

It’s not too late.

Not too late to start again.

Not too late to deepen your walk.

Not too late to move from routine to relationship.

No matter your age.

No matter your history.

No matter where you’re starting from.

You can choose today.

And my prayer for us all is this:

May the Holy Spirit teach us how to walk in habitual fellowship with God — not perfectly, but intentionally.

God bless you.

Have a wonderful day.
