In the beginning!

Good morning everyone, and Happy New Year!

This morning, as I was reading my Bible, I found myself right back at the beginning — Genesis 1. By God’s grace, I read through the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, and every time I return to Genesis, God reveals something new to me. He is so kind in His infinite mercy.

As we step into 2026, I’ve been reflecting deeply on that phrase: “In the beginning.”

If you read Genesis 1 in the Amplified Classic version, it says that God prepared, formed, and created the universe — the heavens and the earth. And it made me pause.

Towards the end of 2025, I came across a book called The Genesis Project by Leke Alder, and one question stayed with me: when Scripture says “in the beginning,” was that really the beginning? Or had God already been at work long before that moment?

That thought stayed with me.

Yesterday, I hosted my siblings for a New Year lunch. While the lunch happened in one day, the preparation didn’t. I had been preparing for days. I bought all the ingredients ahead of time. I prepped what I could early. I made things simple and intentional so that when the time came, everything would flow.

I made stew, egusi soup, pounded yam, jollof rice, fruit salad, tacos — and for every single thing, provision had already been made before anyone arrived.

As I reflected on Genesis 1, it suddenly connected.

Before God said “In the beginning,” He had already prepared everything needed to create life. Everything was already in place. Nothing was missing. Nothing was rushed.

It reminded me of Psalm 139:16, where Scripture tells us that before the foundations of the earth, our days were already written in God’s book. That means before you and I ever showed up, provision had already been made. Direction had already been planned. Grace had already been allocated.

And that realization brought me so much peace.

It reminded me that there is no need to live this year anxious or worried. The God who created the entire universe has already prepared what we need. Our role is not to strive endlessly, but to align.

So as we go through January, and as we walk through this new year, while we set goals and make plans, my encouragement is this:

Ask God, “Let my plans align with Your will.”

Because if something is aligned with God’s will, then provision already exists for it. And the prayer then becomes:

“Lord, open my eyes to see what You have already prepared, and help me to walk in it.”

I pray that as we journey through this year, God will open the eyes of our understanding, help us recognize all that He has already provided, and give us the grace to walk without fear or worry.

May this year be one of alignment, peace, and deeper trust in Him.

God bless you, and Happy New Year.
