Don’t Get Lost in the “How”

Good morning, friends.

I trust you’ve been well and blessed.

Today, I want to share a few insights from my devotion this morning. I read Numbers 11 and 12, but as I reflected, I found myself also going back to Numbers 9 and 10. God highlighted several things to me, and I thought to share — partly for you, and partly so I can come back and remind myself.

God Cares About the Details of Your Day

As I read through Numbers 9 and 10, I noticed something consistent:
God gave Moses step-by-step instructions for everything.

Which tribe would go first.
Which tribe would follow.
Who would be at the rear.
How the Ark of the Covenant would be carried.

Nothing was random.

It reminded me that God desires intimacy with us — not just in big spiritual moments, but in everyday movement. He wants to be involved in how we plan, how we walk, how we transition.

And I felt God gently ask me:

Abiola, are you really hearing Me concerning everything in your day?

And honestly, my answer was no.

It felt like an invitation — an opportunity to go deeper. A reminder that God wants to give daily instructions if we are willing to listen.

Start With God. End With God.

Another beautiful pattern stood out.

Before the Israelites moved, Moses would say:

“Rise up, O Lord, and let Your enemies be scattered.”

Before every journey, they invited God to go ahead of them.

And when they arrived, Moses would say:

“Return, O Lord, and rest among us.”

They didn’t move without prayer.
They didn’t settle without acknowledging God.

That spoke loudly to me.

God was reminding me:
Don’t take a step without praying.
Don’t arrive somewhere without thanking Him and inviting His presence.

Let God lead.
 Let God stay.

Be Mindful of Who Is in Your Circle

In Numbers 11:4, something troubling happens:

The foreigners traveling with the Israelites began to complain. They missed Egypt. They craved meat. And soon, the Israelites joined in.

God reminded me:

Abiola, be careful who you surround yourself with.

The Israelites allowed the mindset of outsiders to shape their own thinking. They forgot the miracles. They forgot the deliverance. They began to long for what God had rescued them from.

The Holy Spirit whispered:

You can be in the world, but you must not be of the world.

Guard your environment.
Guard your influences.
 Guard your conversations.

Don’t Get Lost in the “How”

When the people complained about wanting meat, Moses became overwhelmed.

He looked at the numbers — over 600,000 men, not including women and children — and said, How is this even possible?

He began to calculate resources instead of trusting God.

And God gently reminded me:

Abiola, when I give you a word, don’t get lost in the “how.”

Don’t measure My promises by what you currently see.
Don’t limit My power to your present resources.

Focus on Who said it.

God then sent wind and quail — so much that the people had more than enough.

God can supply beyond imagination.

Keep Your Emotions in Check

In Numbers 12, Miriam and Aaron complained about Moses. They questioned his leadership. They let comparison and emotion lead their words.

God responded firmly, saying He speaks to Moses face to face.

And I felt the Holy Spirit caution me:

Abiola, keep your emotions in check.

People will fail.
Leaders will make mistakes.
But do not be quick to criticize.

God reminded me to guard my mouth, especially concerning His servants. Everyone is still on their journey.

Walk in Humility

Finally, Scripture describes Moses as very humble — more than anyone else on the earth.

That stayed with me.

Humility is not weakness.
Humility is alignment.

And God impressed on my heart again:

Be humble.
Stay teachable.
Stay soft before Me.

Final Reflection

Here’s what I’m taking away from today:

God wants to guide us daily.
He wants to go ahead of us and rest with us.
He wants us mindful of our influences.
He wants us focused on Him, not the process.
He wants our emotions submitted.
He wants humility in our walk.

And my prayer for myself — and for you — is this:

May God’s Word find life in our hearts.
May we learn to listen closely.
May we walk humbly.
And may we become more like Him, day by day.

God bless you
